Wednesday, October 25 -- Galax swept both boys and girls titles and advanced to the region championships with lop-sided victories over Grayson County. The Galax boys' cross country team won its 12th straight Mountain Empire District title and the Maroon Tide girls' team won its fifth straight. The meet was held at the SW Training Center Facility.

Chad Roberts led the Tide with a 16:43 victory, followed by teammate Andy Haines. The girls team was powered by Elizabeth Mattson's 20:22 win, 58 seconds ahead of Grayson's Paola Grabman.
